Sunday, April 7th, 25 year-old local musician Cody Copeland will be releasing his 3rd self-produced album titled Two States, a glittering assemblage of synth-pop meets chilled out acoustic singer-songwriter bliss. You won’t want to miss this evening of heartfelt songwriting, textural slabs of synths, and melodic crooning in the vein of a soft-spoken Roy Orbison.
For his live performances, Cody takes the act of multitasking to a new level. Acoustic guitar, vintage synthesizers, analog and electronic drums and glockenspiel are all used, backing a velvety and warm vocal delivery.
Due to be released on this evening, “Two States” is the product of living in two polar opposite places during the writing and production of one album. Take the liveliness of the streets of Chicago, add the desolation of the dunes on the Gulf of Mexico, find yourself traveling back and forth, and you have the rhythm behind “Two States”. His songwriting takes you from new love to old, betrayal to forgiveness, hometown to downtown and everywhere in between, all with a softness that comforts you from your worst days to your best.
The talent doesn’t stop here for the night- local legends Gileah Taylor & Chris Taylor will be performing to open up the evening with a mesmerizing take on “bedroom pop with charm”. If anyone knows a thing or two about a good love song, it’s these two. Between being married with kids, and each juggling their own enormous talents, the act of team work is ever apparent in their stage presence. Trading off songs or verses, singing flawless harmonies in a way that seems so natural and comfortable to both of them, the unity really sets in by the end of the first song. This set will be a simple take on their usual recording style, incorporating only the piano and acoustic guitar. Get ready to connect with Gileah & Chris.
