Ashleigh Flynn, called “the darling of the NW Americana scene,” by the Village Voice, burst on to the national scene in 2008 with the release of her third record, American Dream.   A prolific songwriter, Flynn is also an electrifying performer blessed with unbridled charisma.  In 2010, the busy singer-songwriter traveled the country, regularly warming the stage for Todd Snider and Nanci Griffith, as well as opening shows for John Hiatt, Shawn Colvin and Band of Heathens, among others.  She did two month-long European tours wowing fans across the continent.  She began 2011 as a featured artist at the 30A Songwriters Festival.

Late in the Fall 2010 she began recording her next record with producer Chris Funk, Decemberist guitarist and Flynn’s long time musical collaborator. The new record, a modern twist on the Bakersfield sound, continues the storyteller’s inspired narrative that began on earlier records with tales deeply rooted in the American experience.  Just three songs are complete so far.  In A Million Stars, you’ll meet Cattle Annie and Little Britches, two cowgirls that rode the outlaw trails in the late 1800s; New Angel in Heaven, is a song inspired by a grief stricken journalist’s account of the sudden loss of his wife in a tragic accident; and Rainy Days is a simple love song that compares the western landscape to the beauty and mystery of women.  The record will debut later this year.

Ashleigh Flynn grew up in Kentucky stomping and swinging to bluegrass music along the Ohio River.  Prior to American Dream, she has released two full-length studio records Chokecherry (2002) and Ashleigh Flynn, self-titled(1999) and a live record, Sneakin’ Out with Ashleigh Flynn (2005).  All four records have received national acclaim and achieved great sales independently.

Flynn has been featured on many national & internationally syndicated radio programs that celebrate grass roots Americana including, the renowned Wood Songs Old Time Radio Hour and the acclaimed Mountain Stage radio program with Nanci Griffith and Todd Snider. “Ashleigh Flynn represents the next generation of true songwriters. She reminds me of myself and I think she is so brave to come out on stage with just her voice and her guitar. She rules!” — Nanci Griffith, April 2010

“One of my favorite people to perform with and hang out with, Ashleigh Flynn’s lyrics are smart, she’s got a voice full of soul and she knows how to handle a crowd.”
— Todd Snider, 2009

“Her latest release makes it clear that she’s got the natural vocal soulfulness separating the contenders from the pretenders….[Flynn’s] American Dream is true blue Americana.”  – PASTE Magazine, May 2008

“Authentic, smart, touching, funny, engaging, memorable, and enough personality for three performers.” – WFPK, 2009

“Her latest release makes it clear that she’s got the natural vocal soulfulness separating the contenders from the pretenders….[Flynn’s] American Dream is true blue Americana.”  – PASTE Magazine, May 2008

“Possessing vocals graced with other worldly clarity, it’s tempting to call Ashleigh Flynn Americana’s answer to Norah Jones.  That comparison, however, hardly describes Flynn’s genuinely compelling storytelling.”  – Performing Songwriter, July/August 2008

“I haven’t been knocked out by a female songwriter like this since I first encountered a young Patty Griffin or Nanci Griffith.” – Jambase, 2008 High Sierra Review
